SCRAPBOOK PAPER GIFT WRAPPING IDEAS

September 16, 2018

In today's project, we're shoving aside traditional wrapping paper and making our gifts festive using 12 x 12 inch scrapbook paper.  And, we're taking cues from these fun designs to create unique gift toppers, tags, embellishments, and more! With so many fun scrapbook paper designs out there, I think we sometimes underestimate their worth as wrapping paper.  So, I think it's time we take a second look!

This project works best for small gifts that can be fully wrapped with a 12 x 12 inch sheet of scrapbook paper.  Make sure though that you're working with a lightweight paper, and nothing too heavy like medium-weight or card stock.  I used the colourful graphic designs of The Paper Studio's "Treat Yourself" 12" x 12" paper pad

Balloons:

Use a balloon punch, like this one from EK Tools, to copy the images in the paper.  Mix textures when creating layers for a little extra fun.  Once you're done, tie a bow at the bottom of each balloon with baker's twine.

Heart: Use a heart punch that's smaller than the balloon punch to make the shape, and simply glue the heart in the centre with a glue stick.

Colour block: Punch out two balloons, but take one for the top layer and cut it straight across.  Glue it to the top of another.

Lollipops:

Pick up a pack of 4" treat sticks to get started on making the lollipops you see in this paper.  Use a 1 1/2" circle punch to create the pop shape.  Before hot gluing them to the treat sticks, make your designs as follows.

Sprinkles:  These are real sprinkles! Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge with a paint dabber across half of the circle.  Sprinkle on the sprinkles and gently pat them down.  Let dry completely before adhering to a treat stick.

Hearts:  Use a mini heart punch to create a bunch of heart shapes, then randomly glue them to the lollipop shape.  I used glitter paper for that extra pop (see shopping guide below for where you can buy yours).

Cheering Flags:

Create the flags with this EK Tools punch.  Use letter stickers to spell out the word "YAY".  Hot glue the flags to the same treat sticks that you used to make the lollipops.  Then, hot glue a small pom pom to the top of each one.
