HOW TO CRAFT A CARD AND ENVELOPE WITH PAPER

October 18, 2015

In my previous post, I mentioned that I would show you how to make a card and envelope with paper.  I share a lot of card crafts on this blog, and often times I use prescored cards that I buy from the store.  With them comes envelopes.  But sometimes I make my own too, especially if I want to use a scrapbook paper with a colour or pattern.  Now let's start with the first step.

Make the Envelope:

It's important to make the envelope first because then you can trim the card accordingly.

TOOLS & MATERIALS:

  • One sheet of 12 x 12 inch scrapbook paper (typical paper pad size)

  • Paper trimmer

  • Glue stick

DIRECTIONS:

Start by trimming the paper down to an 8" x 8" size.  The following diagram will show you the step-by-step process of making an envelope:

Step 1: Fold two opposite corners into each other.

Steps 2 & 3: Apply glue along the edge of the bottom of the envelope, and fold towards the middle.

Step 4: Tuck the corner over.

Step 5: Make the crease for the top by folding it towards the middle.

Now you've got yourself an envelope!

The pattern of the paper gives instant liners too.  And depending on the occasion it's for, you can choose papers to represent that.

To seal the envelope, you can use washi tape, a seal, a sticker, or whatever.  But before you do...

Make the Card:

TOOLS & MATERIALS:

DIRECTIONS:

Measure the envelope's dimensions (use the ruler on the paper trimmer).  Trim the paper for the card to fit these dimensions, but slightly smaller.  Fold paper in half.

Now you've got a card too!

And you can decorate it any way you like.  Here are some ideas.

This simple project takes only minutes to do, but the results are fun and colourful!
